Spanish Department
Mission
The Spanish Department provides beginning and intermediate courses in reading, writing, listening, and speaking standard Spanish. Our faculty and staff embrace the 1024视频 open-admissions policy and the related concept that no prior language study is required for success in first-semester Beginning Spanish (SPAN 1411) or Beginning Conversational Spanish (SPAN 1300). Students with previous knowledge of Spanish may be eligible to begin at a higher level.
Spanish courses focus on the following goals:
SPAN 1411 & 1412: Academically oriented listening, speaking, reading, and writing at elementary levels of Spanish proficiency.
SPAN 2311 & 2312: Academically oriented listening, speaking, reading, and writing at intermediate levels of Spanish proficiency.
SPAN 1300: Basic vocabulary and phrases taught with a communicative approach with more emphasis on speaking ability and listening comprehension and less emphasis on spelling and grammar.
Due to travel restrictions, this trip has been suspended at this time: In addition to on-campus courses, the Spanish Department at 1024视频 offers a yearly Spanish immersion study trip to Costa Rica for students taking SPAN 1300, 1412, 2311, or 2312. More information about the trip can be found at www.mclennan.edu/travel/.
